Mandy and Karl – Vancouver Engagement Photos

Last year, I got a call from Mandy… she and Karl were getting married here in Vancouver and she would love for me to shoot their wedding. Happily, I had their date available and we booked it! I then had the pleasure of meeting them both when they were in town last summer for their engagement shoot… what a blast they are! Mandy is a gorgeous girl from Alberta who met her handsome fiance, Karl in the security line up at an airport… they chatted a bit and luckily he was resourceful enough to track her down when they both got back to Calgary and they have been together ever since. A few years go by (during which Karl is signed as a defenseman for the Washington Capitals), followed by a romantic engagement in Whistler… and now the two are planning their wedding next month here in Karl’s hometown of Vancouver. If the wedding is half as much fun as their engagement shoot, the guests are in for a great time! These two absolutely adore each other , they love to laugh and are a joy to be around… AND I am very much looking forward to working with their very talented and lovely wedding planner, Alicia of Alicia Keats Weddings and Events on their big day of celebrations at the Vancouver Convention Center.

As much as they love each other, their sweet dachshunds, Murphy and Charlie got their share of love as well… a funny story, the dogs had their own 5 minutes of fame recently which you can read about here…

Looking forward to seeing you two lovebirds in a few weeks on the wedding day!

Adina Neufeld of Stella and Dot – Vancouver Headshots

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love jewellery. Even my Mom says she thinks I was a gypsy in a past life… which I think could be entirely possible! Therefore, you can imagine how happy I was when the fabulously stylish Adina Neufeld asked me to do some headshots for her recently. Adina is a powerhouse stylist with the gorgeous jewellery line, Stella & Dot. And, I’ll be honest, I am completely addicted to Stella & Dot jewellery. Don’t judge… there are far worse addictions, I can assure you.

Adina is such an awesome woman. Not only is she one of the hardest working, supportive and fun women I know, she has also figured out the secret. You want to know what the secret is? If you’re doing what you love, it doesn’t seem like work, silly! Not only does she have THE most drool-worthy collection of baubles and jewels to choose from every day (I’m sorry, do I sound a bit jealous?), but she also gets to work with an amazing community of women. Stella and Dot is a quickly growing Fortune 500 company and is unique in that it is only sold through in-home trunk shows by personal stylists, like my good friend, Adina. I can personally attest to how fun the trunk shows are as I hosted one recently and it was a blast! Lots of friends, lots of laughs, lots of jewellery… what could be more fun than that?

All the great baubles I have of my own now, that’s what.

Erin & Jeff – Vancouver Engagement Photos

Happy 2012 to everyone! It is a New Year and one I am very excited about… there are a lot of beautiful weddings on the roster this year and lots to look forward to. My first wedding of the year will be this fabulous couple, Erin and Jeff… I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement shoot awhile back and as you can see, not only are they a gorgeous couple and absolutely adorable together, they are also very much in love. I just love it when my couples make my job so easy…

Erin and Jeff are great friends of Kim and Keith, whose wedding I photographed back in September. I look forward to seeing them again at Erin and Jeff’s wedding next month at Swan-E-Set. I just KNOW it is going to be a fun and fabulous wedding day!

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Erin! I hope you’re having a wonderful birthday… see you soon!!

singer songwriter, asha diaz

I have always said that one day, I will see this girl up on stage somewhere, accepting a major award… but for now she’s just enjoying being a teenager. a very talented teenager, mind you. one who not only sings and plays piano, but writes her own music as well.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Asha since she was a little girl, dancing around in her tutu with my daughter, Maddi… and it has been a blast watching her grow up into the fabulously talented girl she is today. she has been performing and writing her own original music since she was eight years old, she even held court performing in Robson Square during the 2010 Olympics this February. she followed up that success this summer by releasing her first CD, Jumpin’ Off.

Asha’s most recent endeavour is competing in CBC Radio’s contest “Best High School Singer/Songwriter“. her vibe and her music reminds me of a young Sarah McLachlan and I know you would love her music… so, take a minute, have a listen and VOTE (between October 14 – 17th) at this link to help make Asha’s dreams come true!

summertime…

this summer has literally flown by… with gorgeous weddings and portrait shoots and even some precious vacation time snuck in there, I can’t believe it is already August. I just returned from a glorious week of fun with the family at a house in Pender Harbour. not just any house, but a huge house, set on a cliff on the ocean with stunning views and spectacular sunsets. we rented it with a few other families and together we all enjoyed long days of coffee on the deck, day trips to the beach, kayaking in the afternoon, huge feasts for dinner and then evenings spent leisurely watching the amazing meteor showers in the night sky. it was a week to remember, for sure. I wish I could share all of the beautiful photos from our week, but this one in particular caught my eye when I was uploading last night.

we were coming back from the beach on our way to the rope swing, which was about 5 mins. from the house. I’m having a blast driving my friend’s convertible (I know, poor me!) and my daughter Maddi and her friend Asha are in the back seat complaining because they are in their bathing suits and the wind is too cold. we quickly pull over and thrown them a few towels and a sweater from the trunk to put an end to the whining. the rest of the drive, I keep looking at Maddi in the rear view mirror to make sure she’s okay. she has this old brown sweater pulled up tight and her hair is blowing like a banshee all over the place and I can’t help but notice how unbelievably beautiful she is. first thing I did when we stopped at the rope swing was take her photo to capture the moment.

and then it was gone.

sarah & mike – vancouver engagement photos

when I first met Sarah & Mike, I had an immediate connection with both of them… you know when you meet someone and you are so comfortable, you feel as if you’ve known them forever? it was just like that and I knew it was going to be an absolute pleasure to work with them. I’m happy to say, I was right! they live in Alberta and we scheduled their engagement shoot well in advance for a weekend they were home in Vancouver. we had so much fun shooting that day, starting off at Jericho in the gorgeous shade of the park and then down to the beach… and then we headed off to UBC where Sarah & Mike are both long-time alumni. it was such a good day, I didn’t even mind the fact I was working on Mother’s Day… mainly because they are so much fun to hang out with! but also because, as a Mother’s Day gift, my fabulous daughter came along with me to assist. I love having her with me when I’m working because it feels so much less like work… and she even got a few awesome shots off as well! like the one in the upper right of this series… it was such a nice compliment to my up-close images. she actually got quite a few great shots that day… what can I say, my kid rocks. and apparently takes good photos, too!

Sarah and Mike, thank you for sharing yourselves so naturally that day! I am soooo looking forward to your wedding in few weeks…

pink petal ballet…

last Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing 180 little girls (and one boy!), ages 2 through 7 dancing their hearts out on stage at Capilano University Performance Arts Theatre. my good friend and client, Alix Dunham of Pink Petal Ballet has been dancing her whole life and teaching kids to love dance for the past 17 years. to see her work her magic with these adorable kids at Pink Petal Ballet’s year end performance is a joy to be shared…

the combination of all of those sweet faces in their adorable costumes made me take waaaaaaayyy too many photos! as a result, I couldn’t resist creating a very special slideshow from a bunch of my favourites.

first comes love, then comes marriage…

one of the many things I love about my job is keeping in touch with my wedding clients. I first met Leanne & Matt when I had the pleasure of photographing their gorgeous Kelowna wedding back in September of 2008…

when I heard from Leanne they were expecting a baby in the Spring, we headed down to the beach in West Van to do a little impromtu pregnancy shoot to capture her beautiful belly. I forgot how easy it was to photograph these two. they certainly make my job an easy one…

and then… their beautiful baby girl, Ella was born in March of this year! newborns are so precious to photograph and Ella was no exception. she slept through most of our shoot and I used the opportunity to capture the beautiful bond between Ella and her very lucky parents…

Leanne and Matt, it has been such a pleasure to document and share in your amazing journey and I wish you both a lifetime of joy and happiness with your gorgeous new daughter!

road trip, anyone?

when I was a kid, I loved a good road trip. getting in the car and driving, the road in front of you and no particular place to be… now that I HAVE a kid, I love a road trip even more! what a great way to get away and have fun and explore. my daughter and I took off for 10 days over Spring Break and flew into San Francisco. what a gorgeous city! so much to see and do… our plan was to spend a few days doing the tourist thing and then rent a car and drive south on the scenic Pacific Coast Highway and see where it took us. but first, San Fran!

between shopping and sightseeing and sleeping and eating, we rode the cable cars and even visited Alcatraz. we soaked up the feel of the city on the streets of San Francisco. although I have to say, Haight Ashbury was quite a trip… in more ways than one!

stopping to stock up on tunes for the road trip portion was also a must… and what do you know? we just happened to find a great music store in the neighbourhood.

stay tuned for the second, and more scenic part of the trip! so many photos, way too many to choose from…
