Pink Petal Ballet - Sweet Pea Photography

A few years ago, my daughter started pre-school... it was SUCH a cute age and I remember meeting some new moms and making some wonderful friends at the time.  one in particular, whose daughter was so adorable, I couldn't WAIT to photograph.  imagine my delight when my phone rang a few weeks later and it was her mom, Alix, asking me to photograph her!  she came by for coffee, I took a few photos and we became fast friends.  for the past 13 years we have watched our kids grow up together, shared many a family summer vacation, as well as a few martinis on the deck... and she is still one of my best friends.  not only is she a super cool chick, she was (and still is!) a very talented ballet teacher.  I remember how much I absolutely adored dressing up my daughter in her pretty pink tutu and bringing her to Alix's classes and watching her dance around.  Alix's Pink Petal Ballet classes have become very popular and a highlight of the dance community here in North Vancouver... the best part is, for the past several years, I have had the great pleasure of photographing their end of the year performance. each year, it brings tears to my eyes to see these beautiful ballerinas with their smiling faces and their INCREDIBLE (handmade by Alix!) costumes.  this year was no different... except I also had the pleasure of watching her very talented daughter, Asha Diaz sing onstage while my own daughter, Maddi helped out backstage wrangling all the adorable little ballerinas.  I couldn't have been more proud of both of them... but mainly of my best friend, Alix and the incredible person she is.

here's a few of my favourite images from this year's performance, Circus!  if the cuteness overload isn't too much for you and you want more... feel free to check out this slideshow to watch the magic for yourself.

I hope you enjoy the photos!

Mandy and Karl - Vancouver Engagement Photos

Last year, I got a call from Mandy... she and Karl were getting married here in Vancouver and she would love for me to shoot their wedding.  Happily, I had their date available and we booked it!  I then had the pleasure of meeting them both when they were in town last summer for their engagement shoot... what a blast they are!  Mandy is a gorgeous girl from Alberta who met her handsome fiance, Karl in the security line up at an airport... they chatted a bit and luckily he was resourceful enough to track her down when they both got back to Calgary and they have been together ever since.  A few years go by (during which Karl is signed as a defenseman for the Washington Capitals), followed by a romantic engagement in Whistler... and now the two are planning their wedding next month here in Karl's hometown of Vancouver.  If the wedding is half as much fun as their engagement shoot, the guests are in for a great time!  These two absolutely adore each other , they love to laugh and are a joy to be around... AND I am very much looking forward to working with their very talented and lovely wedding planner, Alicia of Alicia Keats Weddings and Events on their big day of celebrations at the Vancouver Convention Center.

As much as they love each other, their sweet dachshunds, Murphy and Charlie got their share of love as well... a funny story, the dogs had their own 5 minutes of fame recently which you can read about here...

Looking forward to seeing you two lovebirds in a few weeks on the wedding day!

Adina Neufeld of Stella and Dot - Vancouver Headshots

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love jewellery.  Even my Mom says she thinks I was a gypsy in a past life... which I think could be entirely possible!  Therefore, you can imagine how happy I was when the fabulously stylish Adina Neufeld asked me to do some headshots for her recently.  Adina is a powerhouse stylist with the gorgeous jewellery line, Stella & Dot.  And, I'll be honest, I am completely addicted to Stella & Dot jewellery.  Don't judge... there are far worse addictions, I can assure you.

Adina is such an awesome woman.  Not only is she one of the hardest working, supportive and fun women I know, she has also figured out the secret.  You want to know what the secret is?  If you're doing what you love, it doesn't seem like work, silly!  Not only does she have THE most drool-worthy collection of baubles and jewels to choose from every day (I'm sorry, do I sound a bit jealous?), but she also gets to work with an amazing community of women.  Stella and Dot is a quickly growing Fortune 500 company and is unique in that it is only sold through in-home trunk shows by personal stylists, like my good friend, Adina.  I can personally attest to how fun the trunk shows are as I hosted one recently and it was a blast!  Lots of friends, lots of laughs, lots of jewellery... what could be more fun than that?

All the great baubles I have of my own now, that's what.

Thanks, Adina!

Erin & Jeff - Vancouver Engagement Photos

Happy 2012 to everyone!  It is a New Year and one I am very excited about... there are a lot of beautiful weddings on the roster this year and lots to look forward to.  My first wedding of the year will be this fabulous couple, Erin and Jeff... I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement shoot awhile back and as you can see, not only are they a gorgeous couple and absolutely adorable together, they are also very much in love.  I just love it when my couples make my job so easy...

Erin and Jeff are great friends of Kim and Keith, whose wedding I photographed back in September.  I look forward to seeing them again at Erin and Jeff's wedding next month at Swan-E-Set.  I just KNOW it is going to be a fun and fabulous wedding day!

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Erin!  I hope you're having a wonderful birthday... see you soon!!

Sue and Steve's Vancouver Sutton Place Hotel Wedding ~ Sweet Pea Photography

I was thrilled to see Sue and Steve's beautiful wedding from May this year featured on the WedLuxe Magazine blog today... they are such a wonderful couple and their wedding was a day to remember!  Although the weather was less than cooperative, everyone's spirits were high for our pre-wedding shoot on location in downtown Vancouver.  Sue was a perfect example of a bride who would not let a little bit of rain ruin her day!  I always reassure my wedding couples and let them know it is never a disaster when it rains on the wedding day, it just makes things a bit more of a challenge to keep the dress clean and dry.  As a wedding photographer in Vancouver, let's just say I have a bit of experience shooting weddings in the rain... and as a result, a handful of locations that fit my criteria... under cover, but open to great natural light.  Sue and Steve chose well as their wedding party helped make the day extra fun! And their choice of the Sutton Place Hotel as the location for both the ceremony and reception was a good one as well.  The warmth and elegance of Sutton Place lent itself beautifully to their wedding and provided the backdrop for more stunning photos... I couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding to photograph.  With flowers by Suzanne of Granville Island Florist, decor by Colin of Upright Decor, cake by Peter of Ganache Patisserie, the bride's Lazaro gown from Bisou Bridal and jewels by Elsa Corsi, it was a feast for the eyes as well as my camera!

Congratulations, Sue and Steve!  You two were such a pleasure to work with and I love that you chose me to document your beautiful wedding day.

I wish you both a lifetime of love, laughter, health and happiness!

Kim & Keith - Hart House Wedding

Kim and Keith, what can I say about these two?  Well, for one, they held the honour of being my final wedding of 2011.  They were also hands down, one of my favourites.  Family and friends (and their sweet puppy, Winston!) mean the world to them, high school sweethearts with nothing but eyes for each other... their wedding was both wonderfully emotional and hilariously fun at the same time.  I am happy to say, I laughed and cried along with them all day long!

The Hart House in Burnaby is such a wonderful location for a wedding ceremony and reception.  I've had the pleasure of photographing several weddings there this year and their huge marquee tent was literally transformed this time by the incredibly talented Kim Raddysh and her wonderful team at Wedding Design Studio.  I always love working with Kim as she is a true artist and she really takes the time to work with the bride and groom.  Together, they always come up with a unique vision for each and every wedding.

Congratulations, Kim and Keith!  Thank you for choosing me to be a part of your very special day.  Wishing you many years of love, laughter and happiness.  I love you guys!
